Just a few days shy of July 4th Weekend, one of the biggest party weekends in the Hamptons there’s no question that most New Yorkers are heading out east.  This past Monday I sat down with Danny Volk, Director of Operations for EMM Group to find out a bit more on this summers hottest and most talked about nightclub, SL East.

With only a few weeks into summer SL East has already built an impressive roster of recent attendees: Carmelo Anthony, Russell Simmons, Whitney Port, Real Housewives of New York,  Lu Ann de Lesseps and Matthew Settle just to name a few.

TD:  This past Memorial Day weekend, EMM Group opened its sixth highly anticipated nightclub venue SL East in East Hampton. What was the key factor in bringing SL to the Hamptons?

DV:  "There was more than one factor, there were several factors. The biggest factor was that year in and year out our clientele travels east for the summer. We love that we are now able to provide a seamless experience for our costumers both in and out of the city. Space was also a factor, SL East is a large space which features an indoor/outdoor design with massive VIP-lounge and patio terrace, and a central row of seating we call the "catwalk"  which ensures everyone has a full view from every angle inside."

TD:  Can you tell me what to expect at SL East this Fourth of July weekend? Are there any big names expected to attend that you can discuss with me?

DV:  "Every weekend SL East will have an International DJ line up.This Saturday for Fourth of July Weekend, we have DJ Ruckus.  Sunday’s guest DJ’s are Jesse Marco and Triarchy. The event will be hosted by Victoria’s Secret Model Alessandra Ambrosio. Other big names who are attending won’t be released until the day of the event. Often we don’t find out until last minute."

TD:  I’ve been a club goer for quite a few years, my first nightclub was Palladium back in 1995 so you can imagine the tremendous amount of clubs I've witnessed open and close within a few months. What are some of EMM Groups tactics that keep your clients coming back while maintaining the same exclusivity?

DV:  "Now it’s more of a business, back then it I think it was just more of people who had money to open a club and filled it with people just to look cool, there was a different perception. We treat our nightclubs as a business and we really cater to our clients. We strongly feel that service is most important because at the end of the day every place serves the same vodka, more or less plays similar music, the ambiance changes here and there but its EMM Groups exceptional service and the dedication of the staff, owners and myself. The hand holding we do with our clients from the moment they walk in and to the minute they leave we make sure everyone is taken care of.  This has made a huge difference between EMM Group and everyone else."

DV:  "I definitely agree with you. Our fear at first was when we opened our first restaurant people would just see us a bunch of nightclub owners. Our biggest challenge was convincing people that this is going to be a real restaurant. Our customers saw how important that was to us."

TD:  I think its save to say you’ve proven yourself on that aspect

DV:  "Yes, we have."

TD:  Does EMM Group have any new ventures in the works that you would like to share with me?

DV:  "Yes, we have two new restaurants opening this year. First opening will be Lexington Brass which is a 110 seat American Brassiere and will be located inside the new Hyatt 48 Lex Hotel. Lexington Brass is set to open toward the end of July. We are also opening Catch which is a 260 seat restaurant. The three story space, will include a full enclosed roof deck and will be located around the corner from Abe and Arthurs. Catch will be a fish based concept, like what Abe and Arthurs is to American cuisine and steak, it’s the seafood version of that. Catch is slated to open near the fall."

TD:  The name EMM Group is synonymous with some of the best nightclubs and lounges the east coast has to offer. Has there been any discussion on expanding to the West coast?

DV:  "It definitely has been talked about but it’s just a matter of waiting for the right opportunity, so we’ll see where it takes us."
